Welcome
When you take in the work of Marie Thérèse van Rijn Wekx it is as if you wake up and your eyes have to focus.
Colorful, dreamlike images seem to move, hazy like a blurred photo. You are taken along, sucked into the work as if you are entering another world, one that is outside the everyday reality.
Her abstract, atmospheric, ethereal paintings are inspired by the need to express the mystique of life, to make visible what can only be felt.
The sfumato (smoky) way of painting creates the atmosphere she wants to put in her work in her abstract atmospheric landscapes as well in her colorfields.
The colors seem to pulse and vibrate as if the light breaks through the canvas. This is achieved through a very time consuming process of painting. Many thin layers of paint are painted on top of each other, which have to dry for a few days in between. Her paintings contain energy and silence and create a healing field, a portal for awareness.
Her sources of inspiration are light, color, atmosphere, quantum physics, metaphysics, neuroscience and spirituality.
Her energetic color fields of altered states as she calls them, each have in their own way a high aesthetic quality and power.
